The Alberta government is set to release a report detailing the financial investigation of the City of Chestermere, following the dismissal of Mayor Jeff Colvin, half of the city council, and three senior officials in December 2023. This financial probe, carried out by Deloitte, examined the city’s finances from October 2021 to December 2023, focusing on financial policies, transactions, and governance, among other aspects. This inquiry followed an earlier governance inspection which highlighted mismanagement and triggered these dismissals. The findings of the financial inspection have not been disclosed yet, but city officials have reportedly agreed with the conclusions. Interim CAO Pat Vincent expressed confidence in Chestermere’s recovery and ongoing improvements in municipal governance. A byelection to fill the vacant council seats is expected before June, with ousted members planning to run if their legal challenges fail.
