Former Chestermere Mayor Denies Spending Allegations, Questions Lawsuit Timing Before Byelection

Posted underLegalCopied!

Former Chestermere mayor Jeff Colvin and three ex-councillors are denying allegations of improper spending amounting to $650,000, as claimed in a recent lawsuit by the city. The legal action, which comes just a week before a byelection, questions the timing of the suit. The lawsuit alleges unauthorized expenditures during their tenure, but Colvin and his lawyer argue the expenses were either budgeted or authorized by city CAOs. The lawsuit follows their dismissal by the Alberta government last year for mismanagement. The fired officials are now running in the upcoming byelection, with Colvin accusing the province and city officials of trying to influence the election. The situation remains contentious, with ongoing legal actions and unresolved allegations.
