CUPE Accuses Chestermere of Delaying Union Contract and Harassing Pro-Union Employees

Posted underUnionCopied!

The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) has accused the City of Chestermere of delaying the ratification of a union contract and reprimanding workers who support the union. Despite a 60% vote in favor of the contract, the city is postponing ratification until at least December 30, prompting CUPE to file an application with the Alberta Labour Relations Board. Some workers who participated in the ratification have been scolded by city officials, leading CUPE to issue a cease and desist letter. The union is considering further legal action if the city continues to discipline employees for their union activity. The contract includes a $750 signing bonus and a five percent wage increase over two years. The City of Chestermere has not yet responded to the allegations.
